FOOD MANUFACTURER – NORTHERN INDIANA – UCRETE®

Delaminating epoxy mortar, a critical service condition that Surface Solutions tackles from the ground up.

Seventy-five-hundred square feet of delaminating epoxy mortar on a production floor is not a pretty picture for a marshmallow manufacturer in Northern Indiana. This type of fix is a labor intensive process involving epoxy removal, re-sloping for proper drainage and installation of a brand new flooring system. In addition, it requires installers to work around the legs of existing equipment –all 300 of them- with detailed precision under a tight timeline … and Surface Solutions USA is an expert at it.

The installation team removes delaminating epoxy using chipping hammers, then re-slopes the floor using MasterEmaco T 1061 (formerly known as BASF Rapid Mortar 1061), a rapid-setting, cement-based concrete repair mortar that allows for an extended working time. After shot blasting and grinding the T 1061 to ensure a strong adhesive bond and keying in edges and transitions to tie in the floor, UCRETE® HF is hand-troweled to a nominal ¼-inch thickness.

The surface area around each of those equipment legs gets specific treatment: the team hand-trowels UCRETE® WR around them to meet sanitation requirements.

The entire project is completed successfully in just five days.

UCRETE® Flooring Systems

When it’s critical for the production floor of a food and beverage manufacturing facility to withstand a variety of extreme conditions over time, UCRETE is superior to epoxy, especially for this specific application.

The MasterEmaco T 1061 repair mortar is specifically formulated for use with UCRETE® flooring systems and yields excellent results. Designed for repairing horizontal concrete surfaces, unique features and benefits include:

  • Proprietary cement blend bonds to carbonated and noncarbonated concrete substrates
  • Rapid-setting for quick turn-around repairs while extending working time for installers
  • Extra low permeability helps minimize chloride intrusion
  • Excellent resistance to freeze/thaw cycling
  • Shrinkage-compensated, minimizing cracking from drying shrinkage reducing stress at the bond line
  • Can be prepared and coated in as little as 6 hours
  • Can be placed neat up to 2-inch thickness
  • Can be extended up to 100% by weight

UCRETE® HF is a three-part concrete coating treatment and flooring system ideal for use on interior or exterior industrial areas under constant chemical attack, subject to fluctuating temperatures and mechanical cleaning to meet ADA recommendations and require slip resistance for heavy traffic even when wet. UCRETE HF performs perfectly in situations that require limited downtime.

A complement to UCRETE HF is UCRETE® WR, an additive used to form cove bases and renovate walls or vertical surfaces.
