JSW Farm The Chop Shop is the largest U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected meat processing facility in Eastern Kentucky. The Chop Shop is also a retail store offering a variety of fresh local beef, pork, lamb and goat as well as samples, spices and recipes for customers to cook their top-quality cuts of meat at home.

Facility managers were especially concerned about the floors in their meat processing area, the cut and grinding rooms and the hallway. Because of wet conditions, the slick floors were creating safety concerns. In addition, impact and abrasion from livestock and equipment plus constant chemical attack began delaminating the floors. Based on a positive referral from one of our meat processing clients, JSW Farm contacts Surface Solutions to resurface the floors, under a very tight time schedule.

Surface Solutions’ team of in-house experts prepare the 4,600 sq. ft. of concrete by removing the thin mil epoxy coating that was chipping away. The entire floor surface is finished using the three-part UCRETE® HF flooring system to a ¼-inch thickness, ideal for the harsh meat processing environment because it is resistant to slips, hot-water and steam cleaning, and abrasion and impact.

JSW Farm The Chop Shop is the first tenant in Eastern Kentucky’s 100-acre Agricultural Industrial Park. The facility recently worked with the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment to train employees in meat cutting techniques. With increased interest in locally grown and produced food, the facility has already added about 20 jobs to the area, and hopes to add more workers as they grow.
