Every day, Bosma Enterprises helps people who are blind or visually impaired gain the life skills they need to remain independent and the job skills they need to stay self-sufficient. The nonprofit’s rehabilitation program helps nearly 800 people each year and they plan to help even more of Indiana’s 160,000 residents who are blind or visually impaired in the future.

To protect the bare concrete floor in the Surgical Room and Exam Glove Room of their Indianapolis facility, Surface Solutions applies a three-coat Epoxy System with a Urethane topcoat, adding crushed aluminum oxide to the urethane for abrasion and slip resistance.

The Surface Solutions team finishes the 4,200-square-foot flooring project over one three-day weekend. By the end of 2019, the team is installing the same floor coating system in Bosma’s Kit Room. They are also working on custom blending paint chips for a decorative application in the locker rooms and an aisleway in 2020.

Benefits of the 3-Coat Epoxy System

Surface Solutions uses three different low-odor products in their three-coat epoxy floor coating system.

SS013 is a two-component, water based epoxy coating that exhibits excellent characteristics that rival solvent based products. It is recommended for priming or coating concrete, wood or masonry. SS013 can withstand exposure to many common solvents and chemicals, providing good chemical and abrasion resistance as well as substrate penetration. This product has a tack free time of about three hours and can support traffic in as little as six hours.

SS181 is a two-component, 100% solids colored epoxy coating designed for applications where a high-build impact and chemical resistant floor is needed. SS181 is recommended for a variety of chemical exposure environments, providing good low temperature cure capabilities down to as low as 45°F.

SS359 is a three-component, high solids, high wear aliphatic urethane floor finish that exhibits excellent characteristics for abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, weathering and UV-stability. SS359 is recommended for laboratories, computer rooms, cafeterias, warehouses, auto service centers, aircraft hangers and some chemical exposure areas.
