FOOD PACKAGING FACILITY – IOWA – NOVOLAC EPOXY

“The Surface Solutions crew was clean, timely, and overall I was impressed with their level of work and communication with me.”

-Customer Review

SurfaceSolutions

The expert crew at Surface Solutions recently refurbishes 1,470 square feet of concrete on the floor and walls of a facility that provides packaging and manufacturing solutions for the food industry. First they patch the failing concrete with Surface Solutions’ self-branded SS818 Epoxy Fast Set patching kit. Then they apply the SS253 Novolac Epoxy coating system on floor and SS253-V (vertical) on the walls, along with a 3-inch cant cove. Novolac epoxies provide excellent chemical resistance, thermal shock, impact, wear and solvent resistance as well as resistance to corrosion, chipping and cracking.

Our client prides themselves on providing their customers with audit-ready plants that meet tough certification requirements with the utmost quality and confidentiality controls. The Surface Solutions crew spends just one weekend on the job to ensure they can keep their promise. Our client says, “Please give them my thanks when you speak with them.”

Novolac Epoxy

Novolac epoxy resins provide a number of advantages for both floors and walls because they contain more than two epoxy components per molecule which, when cured, create high density and increased epoxy functionality. Novolac epoxy coatings allow wide latitude for formulation. By increasing the level of phenolic, novolac epoxy resin increases chemical resistance and solvent resistance, but the coating loses flexibility. Some phenolics require heat curing.

Advantages

  • High chemical resistance
  • Excellent thermal shock, impact and wear resistance
  • Excellent solvent resistance
  • Resistance to corrosion, chipping and cracking
  • Hard, abrasion resistant film
  • Low permeability
  • Low odor
  • Excellent flowability
  • Moisture insensitive

Limitations

  • Some may require heat cure
  • Relatively slow air cure
  • Chalks/may discolor
  • Relatively brittle

Novolac epoxy is recommended in formulations for high-performance applications such as facilities with high chemical resistance requirements, food and beverage processing, tank linings or external coatings for concrete or steel tanks, secondary containment surfaces, bridges, power plants, refineries and general industrial use.
