According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, an employer must provide, and ensure each employee uses, a safe means of access and egress to and from walking-working surfaces.

OSHA Guidelines for Safety Line Striping

OSHA guidelines state that safety lines must clearly define a specific area with continuous, dotted or squared floor striping. The width of the stripe for both sides of an aisle must be between two and six inches wide and at least four feet in length. OSHA does not specify safety line color for any type of work and walkway area; however, the chosen colors must remain consistent throughout the facility.to be utilized for different sections.

Commonly Used Safety Line Colors & Purposes

Yellow – Denotes areas of caution
Red – Denotes locations for fire equipment or hazard. OSHA states you cannot use red to represent two safety warnings in the same space
White – Denotes pathways that guide people around equipment and storage areas
Orange – Denotes waiting area for materials needing further inspection
